The organisation Associação Albergues Nocturnos de Lisboa is a social non profit organisation, founded in 1881 by the king Dom Luís I of Portugal. This organisation was already hosting pilgrims, children, men and women.
Nowadays the organisation hosts 55 men aged between 20 and 60 years old. These men, for any reason lose their home and would be in the streets if not integrated in Albergues Noturnos. The hosting period is between 18pm and 8 am. Albergues Noturnos provides a bed to sleep, personal hygiene, dinner and breakfast. Furthermore the organisation supports the residents with other cultural and social initiatives.

Activity description: 

The volunteer will support the organisation in its different activities such as supporting the work in the urban garden, cooking the meals, order and cleaning the dorms, delivering the meals, order and storage donated goods (clothes, etc). The schedule could varie between morning and afternoon in order to make possible to support the different activities of the organisation.

Logistic conditions: 
The volunteers can be hosted in a double room or single room, depending of the availability in the period. Depending of the available, there are two options of accommodation: The first option is a house that AMC manages for other volunteers, with a kitchen where it is possible to cook. It is 30 minutes of distance from the volunteer placement. The house has 3 single bedrooms and 1 double/shared bedroom, 1 living room with a small balcony, 1 kitchen with a covered balcony, 1 dinning room, a pantry and 3 toilets, 2 of them with a shower. It’s located in a very lively and culturally diverse neighbourhood, nearby you can find grocery shops with different types of food and there is a supermarket 200m from the house. The nearest metro station is Alameda or Anjos, 15 min walking. Cleaning will be managed by the volunteers living at each house and the division of tasks will be agreed between all. In case of breaking something, please inform us and if is easy to replace, please do it. The house phone number is 211 346 237, phone calls to other landline numbers are free across Europe between 21h and 9h. The second option is to rent a room in a collaborator’s flat. The house has 2 single bedrooms available (one without window), 1 living room/dinning room with a small balcony overlooking the street, 1 kitchen, 1 toilet. It is 45 minutes of distance from the volunteer placement.It’s located in a traditional neighbourhood in the centre of Lisbon, called Madragoa. There is a supermarket 200m from the house. The nearest metro station is Rato, Baixa-Chiado or Cais do Sodré, all about 15 min walking distance. Cleaning will be managed by the volunteers living at each house and the division of tasks will be agreed between all.

The cost indicated is including: pre-departure preparation in your country, accommodation in a shared room (all included), insurance, organisation of the hosting placement and local support. It is possible to opt for a single room at an extra cost of 125 euros. Board, International travel costs and local transports are not included and the volunteer is directly responsible for them.
