Description
The Centre is a place where the older people of Hemel Hempstead, Dacorum and beyond can come and enjoy company, have a fresh nutritious lunch, play games, surf the net or just chat. But it is much more as well.
The Centre offers security, companionship and care; it is modern and very well equipped and they offer a range of activities from companionable silence to gentle exercises with Wii. Plus, we offer a series of ad-hoc presentations and group or individual activities
Volunteers are encouraged to engage with elderly visitors to the Day Centre, from chatting on a one to one basis to giving presentations about their country and culture and offering samples of traditional food they made or had brought with them.
In addition, volunteers take part in activities such as gentle exercises with Wii; armchair dance, card games, bingo and singing. They help serve breakfast and lunch and generally support the staff with other activities. A typical day would last from 10am to 3pm.
Volunteers will need to have a good command of English, and be outgoing, sociable, and willing to engage in conversation.
